The Ultimate House Tour

Hi there, Want to come into a Pompeian home?

You'll need accommodation to live in if your wanting to stay for a visit in Pompeii, with many generous people we assure you that many would open up their Pompeian home for us readers today to live in their homes. When you first start looking at them all from a quick glace, they are all very closely packed together and close to the kerb.
Almost all homes in Pompeii had an rectangular house floor plan and was a large house like this:

The greeting experience

So you're nervously waiting to enter a true Pompeii home so take a deep breath, and walk in.
An open view of a Atrium
Upon entry you would be walking through a small corridor leading out into a grand and called an atrium. It is centered in the middle of the house with smaller rooms surrounded around the atrium. As you have a quick glace around the most eye catching thing is probably a hole in the middle of the roof.
Here it is explained; so it is called an impluvium which has been made modernly to catch rainwater from an opening from the roof which the opening is called an compluvium.  Us visitors and lovely guest reading would be normally first greeted and taken to the tablinum to see the master of the house. Your greeting is just about to start here but it is first important to all guest to be presented to the master of the house which is the next room. The next room that you will be taken to is the tablinum. Presented it's named the tablinum decorated with simply beautifully detailed artworks being presented to amaze us all!

The food process

Inside a Pompeii dining room
Where are we going to be eating?  In Pompeii, the kitchen would be normally only used for preparing food like dicing vegetables and the cooking process would be sometimes done outside in the courtyard to reduce risks or fire. But if you ever need to go to the toilet its just off the corner of the kitchen for quick and easy access.
If you've read our oh so fancy dining... blog you would know what room they eat in but not were it is located? If you have't read it your probably eagerly wanting to know because we all love food only for the tasting!
The dining room is normally located towards the back of the house surrounding the garden so while you eat lying down like your on a bed, your spoon fed with entertainment such as dancers or exotic performances.

Take a nap?

After an short but yet informative tour of  typical Pompeian home you're probably extremely exhausted from going around sightseeing to seeing a show all you want now is a good night rest!
One of the Cabiculum rooms
Taking a good look at the house plan, you'll see several rooms named a cabiculum which is the rooms you'll be not just sleeping as well as getting change or if you just want to chill and have a brake for some some private space or some more activities. Most people are most likely thinking , who would do activites in their bedroom? but the cabiculm wasn't just a bedroom. You can talk, read, weave some chit chat time or sew.

Breath of fresh air

An Pompeian garden courtyard
Long adventures can lead to loss of fresh air, so quickly think of where to go. Ding! The garden. Run to the back of the house and open the curtains up and fresh air! In nice weather dining outside is popular and using their garden to serve their cuisines instead of sitting in the triclinium. You'll instantly see many marble furniture, hand crafted sculpture, ponds and is some gardens foundations. From making their space versatile it was common for Pompeian to grow organic vegetables, herbs and fruits for home cooking or medicine.
